Welcome!
Thank you for considering becoming a resource family (either a foster or adoptive family) for the State of Alaska Office of Children’s Services. Becoming a foster or adoptive family is a big decision, and an important job. We hope this orientation will help you start your journey!
This orientation has several purposes:
- First, this orientation will introduce you to being a resource family and help you make a decision about becoming a foster parent or an adoptive parent.
- Second, this orientation will introduce you to the child protection function of the State of Alaska Office of Children’s Services. You will learn what OCS expects from resource families and you will learn about the steps of the licensing process.
- Finally, you will have the opportunity to learn more about adopting a child from the foster care system.
NOTE: This orientation is intended as information for people living in Alaskan communities that do not have regularly schedule orientations. If you live in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat Su or Juneau, you should attend the orientation in your community.
