Poison Prevention Course
for Resource Families
3.0 Training Hours Credit
About this Course:
Poisoning is consistently within the top 10 causes cited for childhood injuries within the State of Alaska. Between the years 1999 and 2003, poisoning caused injury to 271 children and youth in our state. Over half of those incidents happened to children under the age of 5 years old. This course explores poison prevention with particular attention paid to rural Alaska and to the special requirements of foster homes in Alaska. .
This web based course was developed by Niki Pereira of the Alaska Injury Prevention Center and Aileen McInnis of the Alaska Center for Resource Families. This course was inspired and complements the Alaska FOCUS on Safety curriculum for use in rural areas and schools developed by Sue Lyons under a grant through the Alaska Injury Prevention Center. We are grateful for their permission to some of their artwork and to use some of the information from their curriculum.
