Overview of course:

Understanding child development is critical for good parenting. Recognizing developmental milestones helps you develop realistic expectations and spot possible problems. Foster parents, especially, need to what is normal and how to respond to children in healthy ways. Resource families also need to know that children in care may be at risk for delays. Families need to know what to do with concerns about a child’s development and what resources are available to their family. We want the kids in our care to thrive. That starts with knowing how they grow.

This course focusing on development and growth in children birth to 8 years old. This course will

  • Help you develop knowledge of normal child development
  • Help you recognize possible delays and how to get help
  • Help you understand how a child’s development can be impacted by abuse
  • Help you learn guidelines for providing the best home for children in foster care
