Introduction to the Course:
It is always tragic when someone dies in a fire. It is even more tragic when that death is caused by a smoke alarm that didn't work, or a child who was playing with matches. With a few tools and some preplanning, families can lower their risk of their home or their loved ones being hurt in a fire.
This course will explore how the resource family can be "fire smart" and "emergency ready." Families will learn about conducting effective fire drills, using a fire extinguisher correctly, identifying potentially dangerous firesetting behaviors in children, and promote general home safety. Alaska resource families will also learn what the foster care regulations require of licensed foster families regarding fire safety. Throughout the course, the student will be reading material about fire safety and prevention, visiting other websites to learn more about how to keep safe, and have a chance to learn the material through activities and review questions.
This course gives Alaska licensed resource parents 3.0 hours toward their yearly training requirements.
