Foster Parent Training Requirements:

The Alaska Center for Resource Families is here to help licensed foster parents meet their yearly training hours required by the State of Alaska.

All licensed foster homes are required to have ongoing yearly training. One (1) parent homes are required to have at least 10 hours of training per license year. Two (2) parent foster homes are required to have 15 hours per license year shared between the two parents. Each foster parent is required to have at least 5 hours per year.

New foster and adoptive families are encouraged to attend on-site local Foster and Adoptive Parent CORE Training in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Mat-Su and Kenai/Soldotna, foster families in other areas should complete the self-study workbook of the same name. This course gives basic information about foster children, families and the child protective system.

Experienced foster parents may complete training through self-study or on-site training with the Alaska Center for Recourse Families or attend classes, workshops or conferences sponsored by other agencies. See our Training Information Sheet for more information about what is accepted for training hours.

The Alaska Center for Resource Families is also available to assist foster parents in recording their training. ACRF can track your training when you submit a copy of your certificate, a letter from the trainer, or fill out a Training Information Sheet. This will be entered into a database and made available to you or your licensing worker upon request.
