Core Training for Resource Families
DAY 1: Thursday, May 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
DAY 2: Saturday May 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Core is a required class for foster and adoptive families in Alaska. This 11 credit-hour course (plus homework worth 5 additional credit-hours), offered over a Thursday evening and 8 hours on Saturday, will cover the core elements that foster and adoptive families typically face. We will look at working with the state, working with birthparents, and working with doctors, therapists and the schools. We will examine transracial issues, children with special needs, and grief and self-esteem issues related directly to adoption and foster care.
